Fixing up the hammock

In a world where we're supposed to think about the environment. There still aren't sold spare parts, for a lot of things. Hammocks/swings or what they're called in Sweden is one of those things.

But I refuse to buy a new one, just because the roof was damaged.

So my father replaced the part of the frame, that was broken.

My brother 3D printed a new screw.

Using the old fabric, that had lost it's color and had huge holes, I cut out a new roof. Made from thicker and rainproof cotton canvas.

The old fabric, was once black...

Of course I had cat help.

Then I just had to add some velcro straps to the shorter sides.

I rain proofed the seems.

And done!

I'll put out the cushions too as soon as the seat is dry. Then some happy cats can take naps there and if the cat's allows it, we can also sit there.

Oh and my father had me ordering fabric as soon as he heard, I was sewing a new roof. He wants one for his hammock too. So I now have his roof frame in my hallway.

Ducks and cat in the snow

Weeding with the ducks and hot carrot soup

I picked carrots today and the ducks came running. So I ended up doing some weedeing, so that they could eat some worms.

One duck gets angry when I'm too slow. So she gets a time out in my lap until she calms down, when it happens.

Lots of home grown chili too.

Cleaning the pond

The duck pond was full of leaves and feathers.

So I took two layers of thick steel wire and sewed a net around it.

I took my fathers broken rake and attached it there, with some tape and wire.

The ducks were slightly offended by me bringing a bucket, without any food.

And to make it worse, I didn't wait for them to be done with it, before emptying leaves and feathers in it.

But it was still entertaining to see their human work for them.

I had to stomp the leaves down several times for them to fit. But now the pond is clean for at least a few hours!

Ducks, ducks, duckies!

The ducks are here!

On Monday the ducks will be delivered! And cat pictures

Yes! It's time on Monday and they will be delivered rather than us having to pick them up!

No pictures of the ducks yet, so here's our cats instead.

Project duck - We are ready!

We should be able to pick up the ducks in two weeks. And we're pretty much ready!

Grass seeds with a thin layer of sand on top of them.

Project duck - gate and paint

My father made a gate and we put it up today.

And I painted the door, window and the frames today.

The frames need one more layer.

Project duck - fence

Saturday we got the poles up. Sunday we dug a "ditch", so that we can put down the net a bit into the ground. And we put up the net.

Here we'll just fill it up with some stones and dirt from the outside.

We attached rebars to get the net more steady when we dig it down, and to make it harder for intruders, to dig their way in.

We also the roofing sheat on.

Project duck. There's a house now!

And a homegrown sallad.

Project duck going forward

Ducklings

Today I've booked four ducklings! I will share them with my father who is also our neighbour.

I'm placing stones around the pond that we've made.

And he's prepparing their house.

The ducks will be here in a few weeks, so we'll be done by then!

My gardening and some more. Part 1

This year, a lot is happening around here! Let's start with some plants and preparations in this first part.

First, there was a lot of weed to remove, before I could plant anything here.

I dug up the weed and added some fresh soil.

I aldready have some spice and lavender there. I added some pansies, bit I still havent decided what flowers to plant in the next row.

Some flowers and rosemary.

Lavender and "lemon thyme". I have moved some of the plats since then, since our garden looks different now. I will tell you about it in part 2.

Since my father is also our neighbour, we share a greenhouse. From left to right: chili, three different types of peppers, three different types of tomatoes and two different types cucumbers.

Last year, I lost the battle against the weed. So this year I've done my best to minimize it.

After planting carrots from regular seeds one year, I'm never doing it again! It so much easier this way, as I don't have to remove lots of carrots, once they start to grow.

From left to right: potatoes, carrots, lettuce, sugar snaps and strawberries. I still have some space left.

That's it for the first part! Next part will be less plants and more about the transformation of our outdoor space.
